HOS#616 | 108 m | DP2 8,000 t Cable-Laying Vessel | For P&C Sale
This DP2 cable-laying vessel has an LOA of 108 m, a moulded breadth of 34 m, a moulded depth of 7.8 m and a design draught of 5.2 m. The vessel has a design speed of 6 kn and provides accommodation for 77 POB. It operates under the ROC flag and is classed with ABS & CR.
The vessel carries the class notation ✠A1, Offshore Support Vessel (Cable Lay), Circle E, ✠AMS, ✠DPS-2, CPS, BWT, IHM, SPS and CRC (OC, HC, PL). The DPS-2 notation reflects the vessel’s DP2 capability for maintaining position during cable-laying, cable-recovery, subsea construction and related offshore operations.
The principal cable-handling installation comprises a carousel with a rated loading capacity of 8,000 t. The carousel is designed to accommodate cable dia. ranging from 50 mm to 320 mm and has an OD of 30 m, an ID of 6 m and a wall height of 6 m, supplemented by a 1.2 m guardrail. The carousel provides a max. pulling-line speed of 15 m/min, supporting the controlled loading, storage, paying out and recovery of large offshore cables.
The vessel is designed for operations in ambient temperatures ranging from 0 °C to 45 °C and in water depths of at least 100 m. It has a stated service duration of 30 days, supporting extended offshore cable-installation and construction campaigns without frequent port calls.
The vessel’s operating criteria distinguish between operational and holding conditions. The bow operating and holding limit is stated as ±10°. The corresponding wind limits are 27 kn during operations and 70 kn in holding condition. The max. significant wave-height criteria are 2 m at a 12 s period during operations and 3.5 m at a 12 s period in holding condition. The current-speed criteria are 3 kn during operations and 5 kn in holding condition.
Electrical power is supplied by six main gensets, each rated at 1,550 kW, providing a combined installed main generating capacity of 9,300 kW. The main gensets supply 690 V, three-phase power at 60 Hz. An auxiliary genset rated at 900 kW also supplies 690 V, three-phase power at 60 Hz. Emergency electrical power is provided by one emergency genset rated at 265 kW, supplying 440 V, three-phase power at 60 Hz.
The vessel’s manoeuvring and DP arrangement comprises three aft azimuth thrusters, each rated at 1,500 kW, providing a combined aft-thruster power of 4,500 kW. Three tunnel-type bow thrusters, each rated at 1,300 kW, provide a combined bow-thruster power of 3,900 kW. The complete thruster installation therefore provides a total rated power of 8,400 kW. The thrusters are operated through VFD systems, allowing controlled adjustment of thrust output during DP, transit, manoeuvring and station-keeping operations.
Cable deployment and recovery operations are supported by one hydraulic A-frame with a rated lifting capacity of 250 t. The vessel is additionally fitted with one large PED crane rated at 40 t throughout an operating radius of 5–30 m. A smaller PED crane is rated at 8 t throughout an operating radius of 4.2–30 m. This combination provides heavy-lifting and general deck-handling capability for cable equipment, subsea tools and project cargo.
The vessel is equipped with a six-point positional mooring system comprising electrically powered winches and swivel-head fairleads. This arrangement provides an alternative or complementary means of maintaining vessel position during cable-laying, subsea construction and offshore support operations.
The temporary anchor-wire arrangement comprises two wires of 60 mm dia., each with a max. length of 1,000 m, operated by single-drum winches. The principal anchor-wire arrangement comprises four wires of 60 mm dia., each with a max. length of 1,000 m, also operated through single-drum winches.
Each mooring winch provides a rated pull of 500 kN at 14 m/min on the first layer. The rated holding capacity is 1,800 kN on the first layer. The six-point mooring arrangement, high-capacity winches and extended anchor-wire lengths provide controlled vessel positioning across a range of cable-laying and offshore construction conditions.
The vessel combines DP2 station keeping, an 8,000 t cable carousel, a 250 t hydraulic A-frame, high-capacity deck cranes, six-point positional mooring and a substantial diesel-electric power and thruster installation. This configuration supports offshore power-cable, telecom-cable, interconnector, export-cable and related subsea installation scopes requiring controlled cable storage, deployment and recovery.
